IT seems that the time for Ikogosi, a sleepy town in Ekiti-West Local Government, Ekiti State to gain international attention, prominence and respect has come. This is because of the natural attention seeking circumstances which daily spring in the town .

Apart from the fact that the town harbours the only site where cold and warm spring flow together in its natural form, the site, for many years was left desolate with little enhancement of the pristine tourism assets for economic development and empowerment until recently when Governor Kayode Fayemi rose stoutly to add value to the site.

And as the enhancement of Ikogosi Cold and Warm Spring progresses, the town just woke up to realise that it also shared international disaster precipitated by the Second World War when one of the cargo planes which were used to ferry war deadly munitions crash landed on a hill within the territorial circumferences of the town on Sunday April 12, 1942 at about 8:15 pm almost, 70 years ago!

The interesting part of the story is that, most of the indigenes are aware of the Igbo Aero plane’s story, which was relayed to them by their fathers and grand fathers, yet many do not consider it a worthwhile disaster which if properly packaged and managed would be another tourism plus to the development and progress of the town and its people until the exploration team of the Special Adviser to the Governor of the State on Tourism, Mr Segun Ologunleko which was facilitated by the Onikogosi of Ikogosi, Oba Elijah Abiodun Olorunishola last week.

The visit of the team actuated the Tribune Tourism Magazine in venturing into ‘Igbo Aero plane’ which harbours the Ilapa Hill where the Second World War military cargo plane crash landed, in Ikogosi on Wednesday 12 December, 2012.

Oba Olorunishola had to suspend his meal on learning about our mission as he quickly gave us a two-man guide (made of a retired school principal Mr. Olu Adeniji whose father and grandfather played prominent roles at preserving the story of the crashed plane and Hon Gbenga Adewale a former councillor) a youth leader in the town.

“The two people will avail you the necessary information needed on the site, Mr Adeniji knows much about the story of the crash which he must have heard from his father while Adewale too being a youth will accompany you to learn more of the story,” Oba Olorunishola pointed out.

As we left the palace of Onikogosi for Mr Adeniji’s house, Hon Adewale informed us that the site was far from the town.

“It is not accessible by road. We have to park the car and trek for about one hour 30 minutes mostly climbing the hill,” .

On receiving the Onikogosi’s message, Mr Adeniji rushed inside his house only to appear in his attire with his double barrel gun .

And as we journeyed up hill , climbing the over 675 meters Ilapa Hill, Mr Adeniji told us how it was predicted that such a disaster would occur in the town.

“My name is Olu Adeniji, an indigene of this town. I read History at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University). I was a teacher and retired as a school principal. My father was an Ifa worshipper, and just like Yoruba adage which says “bi oni seri ko lola ma ri lo nmu Babalawo difa Ojojumo (the fact that one cannot use today’s occurrence to categorically say what will happen tomorrow necessitates the diviner to consult the oracle everyday ),

On the morning of April 5, 1942, my father, Baba Ogunkoyo, the second in command to the kabiyesi in the town woke up as usual to consult Ifa oracle. In his divination, he read that danger loomed on Ikogosi and that something which has never occurred in Ekiti would happen and that it would affect Ikogosi in particular. He informed some elders of his revelation. And as it was during the Second World War, different thoughts occupied their minds, various options were proffered. Does it mean that the war would start in Ikogosi? Or would the town be invaded by enemy or occupied by others? Or was the town going to be consumed by fire as almost all the houses then were thatched roofed?

As the guess of what could happened raged on, another traditional ruler told Ogunkoyo that rather than wasting his time ruminating on what the disaster could be, he should appease the gods and ask for the solution .

“So, Ifa instructed them that in order to aver the danger, a big dog should be fetched immediately with a rope while certain incantation should be chanted and then drag it round the town and buried far away from where the people live possibly on a hill. And the elders did just this. The process was carried out by my father.

“And seven days later, at about 8:15 pm on Sunday April 12, 1942, a heavy deafening sound was heard from the Ilapa hill accompanied by a thick wild fire and smoke .

“Looking up the hill, the people could not fathom what it could be than a wild fire erupted after the big bang on the hill.

“Has Armageddon come? Then people started running helter skelter, majority ran to the church, but when the noise did not stop, many ran out of the church again!

“It was a day pandemonium gripped the town. The people were terrified. Nobody was actually sure of what it could be. This was more because loud bang of explosives continued from the hill from 8:15 pm to 5 the following morning.

“However, the following day, the people gathered and decided to venture into Ilapa hill to see what actually happened.

“The expedition to the hill top was spearheaded by one Sergeant Adeleke, a native of Emure who resided here accompanied by some elders, hunters and the brave ones.

“It was when they got to a distance to the scene of the crash that they saw what actually happened the previous night. They could not move closer as the plane was still burning and the heat was severe.

“They descended to tell the residents of the town who gathered at the palace of what they saw.

“You see, the pilot should be commended, I think he manipulated the cargo up to the hill to prevent it from landing in the town because if eventually it fell within the town, in fact it would have been the end of Ikogosi because I assumed that the speed with which it would run within the town would have destroyed many houses and people including animals , taken into cognizance that the houses were thatched roofed

“For almost five years, nothing grew on the top of the hill . The thick forest was devastated and remained barren. This was a rich forest hitherto populated by monkeys, antelopes, baboons, water hog, buffaloes and other exotic fauna.

“After the incident, people were going there, to take bits of the relics. I remember that in 1960, I was there to pick my own share and my father picked his too.

This site was called Igbo Ilapa then and after the incident, it was changed to Igbo Aero plane, we don’t do any rituals on the hill, our hunters only go there for games and there were big animals here before the incident. This was where my father killed a buffalo in 1939.

“Since it occurred in 1942, no government ever dared to make move or show any interest about the scene until last week when Governor Fayemi dispatched his special adviser to see the scene.

“And since then, Ikogosi has not only been in the news once again, but Igbo aero plane has been receiving visitors. Between then and now, I have conducted 15 different groups on tour uphill .

“We are sure that this site will add value of immeasurable proportion to Ikogosi as Governor Fayemi has promised to turn it into a tourism site.”

Mr Adeniji used his wealth of experience as a professional teacher in narrating the incident so well that we never realised that we were walking up to over 675 metres above the sea level, burrowing through the rich vegetation and forest, having a panoramic view of the surrounding towns and villages, with insects ranting and the chirpings of the birds.

“We got to the top of the hill after a walk of about one hour, as we took off at about 1:30 pm and got to the site at 2:27.

At the central portion of the hill top where it seemed that one can actually touch the sky as it looked closer lies parts of the wreckage of the cargo plane, remnants of what could not be carried away by the people. The testimony of a disaster that could have wiped out the Ikogosi town had it been the plane crash landed in the community. We saw two big rusted engines with 13 and 13 piston holes!

After satisfying our curiosity and even looked round whether we could find some other parts, we commenced descending the hill while our guidestold us many remarkable stories about the town.

Hon Adewale also informed that the youth of the town were ready to support and make any sacrifice at ensuring that the site is turned to a tourism site as pronounced by Gov Fayemi ,” We will forever be grateful to the administration of Governor Fayemi for enhancing the Ikogosi Cold and Warm Spring and also processing Igbo aero plane as another tourism centre.”

Ladies only . it is the truth you must know .

DEAR LADIES : BITTER TRUTH YOU MUST SWALLOW : 💯
1. Sex doesn't keep a man, if you like, turn 360% on bed, he will still dump you. Bleach until you become white, if he doesn't notice the qualities of a wife in you, he will leave you.
2. A man who win your love with cash may not stay forever. Real men don't settle down with fake women who love money.
3. The beauty of a woman can take her to a Palace but her character will determine how long she stays in the palace. Beauty attracts men but character keep them.
4. Material things definitely has its merits but it cannot alone provide the riches of a truly meaningful life.
5. Being sexy without a character will not get you a husband, you will only get a boyfriend.
6. Sex can bring pleasure but it can never bring love, sex is a product of love, love is not a product of sex.
7. Sex can make a man stay with you overnight but love will make him stay for a lifetime.
8. There are some things that money just can't buy like manners, moral and integrity.
9. How you dress will definitely determine how men will address you.

AGBALAJOBI LAUDS BUHARI OVER ABUJA–EKITI–LAGOS RAIL PROJECT

AGBALAJOBI LAUDS BUHARI OVER ABUJA–EKITI–LAGOS RAIL PROJECT

September 15, 2016 / :Nigerian Tribune
2
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Otunba Segun Agbalajobi, has lauded the decision of President Mohammed Buhari to include Ekiti State in the station routes of Abuja–Lagos railway project.
Agbalajobi described the decision as “a monumental gesture and favour which all Ekiti sons and daughters will be eternally grateful to President Buhari now and ever.”
Agbalajobi, who made this disclosure at a press conference in Lagos, said “I feel great and happy today to publicly acknowledge the singular deed of President Muhammed Buhari who deliberately and significantly included Ekiti State in the rail route of the proposed Abuja–Lagos rail project.”
He disclosed that “I am addressing a press conference on this not just for attention seeking but to express my deepest understanding of the import of what could have been the loss to Ekiti if the state has not been included in the project. Thus, for President Buhari to have thought it wise despite the fact that Ekiti was not included at the initial design of the project is a monumental favour and gesture which every Ekiti indigene must be grateful to the president.”
He said “the decision of President Buhari is frontally insightful and utmost exhibition of genuine desire for the overall development of Nigeria. It is a decision by a president who comprehends the agricultural potentialities of Ekiti and the usefulness of a railway passing through the state.”
He called on the people of the state to show gratitude to the president not only by supporting his policies but offer him prayers.
He appealed to President Buhari not to be “distracted with the cacophonies of unwarranted criticism which are being hurled against some of his polices which aimed at uprooting the bastion of corruption in Nigeria.”
Agbalajobi added that “the president is on the right path and should remain focussed and unperturbed at his drive against corruption. What we are witnessing is the fact that corruption is trying to fight back which should not be. He has laid his hand on the wheel, he must not look back until the fight against corruption is won and corruption buried in Nigeria.”

Governor Fayose and a fly over bridge by Wale Ojo lanre  !
Our Governor is building a fly over bridge in Ado - Ekiti
You ask for my personal opinion on this ?
Fantastic . there is nothing strange for Ekiti too to have an fly over bridge . States that have are not so special than Ekiti
Forget that we may not need it now but we don't need to embark on emergency construction scheme when we are going to need it
However , why is it that the Ifaki - Ado Ekiti dualization road has been moribund ?
I remember my Governor announced and even made photo show of inspection of the road when he was elected
He gleeful promised of completing this road within 100 days in office
This road links the Norther part of Ekiti with Ado. It is also the road which is being used by Abuja bound travellers passing through Ekiti
This road seems to have no importance to my Governor
It thus has been abandoned . Another . failed promise from the governor

OLUSEGUN AGBALAJOBI  CONGRATULATES MUSLIMS AT EID-EL-KABIR,
 PREACHES HARMONIOUS CO-EXISTENCE.

An  All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain and 2018 guber aspirant in Ekiti State, Olusegun Agbalajobi has called on  Ekiti people and Nigerians to return to the values of peaceful co-existence, brotherly love as Nigerian Muslims today join their counterparts worldwide to celebrate this year's Eid-el-Kabir.

In his goodwill message, Agbalajobi said the nation needs brotherly love and harmonious co-existence among her citizens today above all other things as a means to overcome the numerous challenges threatening her fledgling democracy.

The Ekiti 2018 guber aspirant, who noted that the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir resonates around the virtue of sacrifice, also enjoined the good citizens of Ekiti and Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation pointing out that it is only in the spirit of brotherly love and dedication to national service that Nigerians could build the desired nation.

"As we celebrate this auspicious occasion, therefore, let us renew our faith in our nation and implore the Almighty Allah to restore to us those values that place high premium on human life, love of neighbour and sharing even as we ventilate our faith in the unity of our dear country and the possibility of her taking her proper place in the comity of nations", Agbalajobi urged.

Also thanking the people of Ekiti-State for their continued harmonious and peaceful co-existence in the midst of diversity of ethnic origin and religion, Agbalajobi declared, "With your demonstration of love for neighbour and willingness to serve, our State will continue to be a model of all that patriotic Nigerians will want our dear country to be".

"In this all important crusade to rescue our dear country from socio-economic as well as political quagmire, let us all continue to demonstrate those sterling virtues of harmonious and peaceful co-existence as well as willingness to serve in this melting pot of cultures where you have chosen to turn the multi-ethnic and multi-religious nature of our State into a source of strength", he said.

Wishing all Muslim brothers and sisters in the State a happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration, The gubernatorial aspirant enjoined Nigerians in other parts of the country to take a cue from his people and continued to be their brothers' keepers.

Journalists ! Let's destroy Nigeria ? By Wale Ojo Lanre

Journalists ! Let's destroy Nigeria ?
By Wale Ojo Lanre
Whatever name the Nigeria media tags Nigeria will be the lot of Nigerians . We are passing through a very harsh economic period foisted on ourselves by unpreventable global event and most especially by our own attitude which we must now correct and adjust . But we the journalism practitioners should be circumspect in the way we exaggerate , sensationalise and project the reality . There are many countries that have passed and passing through the worst form , and came out of the seemingly hopeless situation gloriously .This feat was achieved not by the media of these countries exaggerating the impact of the harsh economy to confound the world but by being developmental and patriotic in their analysis , postulations and criticism . This is what we as practitioners of journalism should be doing . I agree with Mr Bayo Onanuga though he used a wrong analogy like his daughter's not minding the curses that some cheap minds will put on me for expressing my mind . The media should at this point allow altruism and patriotic fervour rule their sense of judgement at this critical point in our national history not penchant for acrid criticism and fatalistic sensationalism . We should remember we have no other country than Nigeria .

Why I will vote for Eyitayo Jegede - Richard Akinnola

ONDO GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: I HAVE DECIDED
Congratulations my friend and brother, Aketi for clinching the APC governorship ticket. You have the credentials and capable to be our Governor. Congratulations Dr Olu Agunloye for clinching the SDP governorship ticket. You are equally a good man and capable to govern our State.
I have however, decided to endorse EYITAYO JEGEDE (SAN), the PDP candidate. First, let me state that this choice has nothing to do with political parties, because they are all the same. I am 100% Buharist but not a member of APC. And on this our State's governorship election, l am 100% with Eyitayo, though not a member of PDP by any stretch of imagination.
I know Eyitayo. He is like my younger brother. He was my junior at Acquinas college, Akure. Ever since, Tayo has not changed. He is urbane, humble, simple, honest, disciplined, hard working and highly intelligent. I believe so much in his ability to run our State. I have followed his career over the years, since he set up a thriving law practice at Adamawa state, where he became the two-time NBA Chairman of Adamawa branch and later became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), before he was appointed the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice of Ondo state.
Interestingly, Aketi too who is an SAN, was also once an Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice in Ondo state.
From 1976 when Group Captain Ita David Ikpeme became the first Governor of Ondo State, till now, no Akure indigene has ever been a Governor. Apart from the fact that Tayo is from Akure, (which by the way, has the largest voting population, though Aketi disputes this, saying Akure people are in minority in Akure), l have an emotional attachment to Akure.
I was born and bread in Akure. I schooled in Akure. My late father, Chief Olukayode Akinnola, was the Odole of Akure.
It would, therefore, be my wish to have an Akure indigene be the Governor of my state. Equity demands it and Tayo fits the bill. There had been Ajasin, Adefarati, Agagu and Mimiko from different parts of the State and it would only be fair if an Akure person also have a taste of Alagbaka. I am being practical here and echoing the sentiments of many Ondo state people. I know the pro-APC people may want to pooh-pooh this sentiment, the reality would be made manifest in November. Trust me, this election would not be decided solely on party affiliation but on other sentiments.
Let me pause here.
ON EYITAYO JEGEDE I STAND.
