7 reasons why you should say this particular prayer while fasting
There is a particular prayer which is observed often after Salaatul Isha’ by Muslims throughout the 29 or 30 days in the month of Ramadan. This prayer is called Taraweeh, that is late night prayer.
Taraweeh could also be called Qiyaamu-l-Layl or Tahajjud, or just simply Qiyaam. Although, all these words mean the same thing, they are however used in different context sometimes based on what is being talked about.
In some parts of the world, Taraweeh is delayed until when people have gone to their bed, like in Saudi Arabia.
This prayer is embedded with so much forgiveness, blessings, and rewards of many other good things form the Creator of Heavens, Earth and the things in between both.
1. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon his noble soul) was reported to have said in a Hadeeth in Saheeh Bukhari that: “Whoever establishes a prayer (Taraweeh) during the nights of Ramadan faithfully, out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards (not for showing off), all his past sins will be forgiven.”
2. Another justification for observing the Tahajjud or Taraweeh is the Hadeeth of Abdullah Ibn Umar (may Allah’s be upon him and his father). According to the Hadeeth in Saheeh Bukhari, the Prophet of Allah said a man will indeed be an excellent man if he prays at night.
3. Prophet Muhammad said in a Hadeeth in Saheeh Bukhari that: “Whoever prays Qiyaamu-l-Layl reciting ten Ayah (verse of the Glorious Qur’an), he will not be recorded among the negligent. Whoever prays Qiyaamu-l-Layl reciting 100 Aayat (verses of the Glorious Qur’an), he will be recorded among the devout. And whoever prays Qiyaamu-l-Layl reciting 1,000 Aayat, he will be recorded among those with a multitude of good deeds.”
4. In a Hadeeth in Tirmidh, the Prophet of Islam said: “Spread the greeting of Salaam, provide food to the needy and pray at night, while people are asleep; you would enter Paradise with peace.”
The above stated Hadeeth of the Prophet of Allah lays credence to one of the reasons a Muslim should not miss the Taraweeh prayer, as well being kind to other people irrespective of religious differences, on the aspect of giving out food to those in need of it.
5. According to Rasuulu laah in a Hadeeth in Nasaa’i and some other collectors of Hadeeth, he said whoever prays Qiyaam with the Imaam until he finishes, Allah will record it as if he prayed the whole night.
6. Prophet Muhammad was reported to have said: “The best of prayers after those prescribed are those prayed in the depth of the night.”
7. In conclusion, the best of all voluntary prayers, which is Taraweeh is also a compendium of a sign of righteousness, goodness and a means of forgiveness from Allah and a gateway to entering Paradise on the day of resurrection.
Muslims are advised to ensure they do not miss the Taraweeh in order that maximise the rewards the once in a year month of Ramadan brings for them.
