My mum slept with my boyfriend AFTER I told her he had beaten me up
Chelsea Hooper turned to her mum for support when she was attacked by her boyfriend and has been left devastated by the betrayal
When Chelsea Hopper walked out on an explosive relationship she turned to the person she really needed to provide love and support . . . her mother.
Chelsea told her mum she had been beaten up by her boyfriend and expected to hear reassuring words, how her family would never see or speak to Kevin Scott again.
It didn’t quite work out that way.
For mum Jacqueline jumped into bed with Kevin and carried on a secret relationship right under the noses of her husband and daughter.
Shaken Chelsea, 22, said: “It is the ultimate betrayal . It was terrifying and heartbreaking enough to go through a violent relationship.
“But to find out he was my mother’s secret lover was just too much to take. I never want anything to do with either of them ever again.”
In a candid interview, Chelsea revealed the astonishing merry-go-round involving herself, Kevin, 35, and 47-year-old Jacqueline.
She said the truth emerged when she discovered Facebook messages from her mum telling Kevin he was good in bed.
Chelsea and Kevin had split up at the time, though they would eventually be reunited.
She said: “Mum kept telling me I should get back together with him and she knew we were meant to be together and that he truly loved me.
“It was the start of a real change in her. She started going out of the house at all different times and was dressing up in short skirts and wearing lots of make-up.
“Me and my dad kept asking her why she was doing it, but she always got really defensive.
"If I’m honest she was leaving the house looking like a prostitute. It disgusts me.”
Chelsea, a support worker, met Kevin in August 2014 when she was a pub barmaid.
They moved into a flat in Scunthorpe, Lincs, in February last year. But the relationship turned violent and Kevin was in court last month for assault.
Recalling the start of the relationship, Chelsea said: “Kevin would always chat me up, making jokes and complimenting my looks.
“He was always very charming. I really thought I would end up marrying him one day.”
She eventually introduced him to her parents, nervous what they would think about the age gap.
But Jacqueline told her it didn’t matter “as long as you’re happy”.
Chelsea said: “Kevin got on really well with my parents and mum talked about what a nice lad he was.
“I remember she said ‘Oh, he’s a handsome guy isn’t he’!”
But cracks in the relationship emerged. Chelsea added: “I got text messages saying Kevin had been cheating on me.
“I also found messages on his phone from other women, but he would completely deny it.”
As tensions rose, Chelsea claimed Kevin began to turn violent.
She alleged: “He would call me names and accuse me of cheating.
“If I wanted to go out with friends he would smash things up and throw things at me like phones and TV remotes.
"Sometimes he would attack me physically. I seemed to have an almost constant black eye.
“He would call me names and say I was worthless. Whenever I cried he would shout ‘Stop it or I’ll give you something to cry about’!”
Chelsea eventually moved back home.
She recalled: “Dad was really angry but Mum always seemed to defend Kevin and say ‘I bet he didn’t mean to do it, he loves you’.
“She said she would go round and talk to Kevin for me.”
Chelsea went back to Kevin after he bombarded her with flowers, vowing to change. Then she found the Facebook messages.
She said: “They were all dirty messages from my mum telling Kevin how good he was in bed. I felt sick . . . I was hysterical.
“I went to my mum’s and shouted ‘You’ve been f****** my boyfriend! How could you do this to me?
“She denied it and managed to convince my dad that I was wrong.
“I felt suicidal and locked myself in the bathroom with a bottle of pills. Thankfully my friend arrived and got me out of there.”
Kevin also denied the affair, eventually managed to persuade Chelsea he had done nothing wrong – and they moved back in together yet again.
Chelsea said: “I didn’t know what to believe, but it seemed easier just to accept Kevin’s version of what had gone on.
“But it soon became harder to ignore, because I could tell Kevin was cheating on me.
“Sometimes I would come home and my mum would be there. Dad said she would disappear or he would wake up in the early hours and she wasn’t there.”
The final straw came just before Christmas when Chelsea returned home to find Kevin in bed with another woman.
She said: “I screamed ‘what the hell is going on?’ He didn’t seem bothered that I had caught him. He just sat up in bed and lit a cigarette.
“Two days after Christmas I walked out for the last time and drove to a pub to hand Kevin the flat keys. He ended up dragging me out of my car.”
Kevin threw the keys at Chelsea’s face, leaving her with a bruised and bloodied eye. On April 6 he was found guilty of assault by beating.
He was placed under a restraining order by Scunthorpe JPs and must carry out 140 hours unpaid work, pay £660 court costs and give Chelsea £100 compensation.
Chelsea is now in a new relationship but the pain of her mum’s betrayal – and the heartache it caused her dad, 47 – goes on.
She said: “My mum has finally admitted what went on with Kevin. I feel I should be really angry with her, but just feel numb.
“I am upset for me, but I’m more upset for my dad because he’s so distraught.
“I begged him to leave Mum, but they have been together 27 years. I think he’s worried he’d struggle without her.”
Housewife Jacqueline admitted to the Sunday Mirror that she bedded Kevin, but said: “There wasn’t a relationship – I slept with him three times. It was for a bit of attention, because me and my partner don’t have sex.
“The first time was when they had split up. Then she went back to him. Then there was another break in the relationship and it happened again.
“Chelsea thinks I’ve been with him loads of times, but it was three times.
“It was ten minutes – I don’t think we even spoke. I know it was wrong and I regret it. I don’t know what made me do it, I really don’t.”
Kevin tried to play down the assault on Chelsea – telling our reporter he was “only guilty of throwing keys at her”.
And despite Jacqueline’s admission, he claimed: “I have not had sex with her and she has never been to my property as I would never let her in.”
